Land Diver Society Housekeeping Dispatch

A Quick Housekeeping Note

This is something I feel like I should do occasionally: some housekeeping for the website and Instagram page. These will be kind of impromptu dispatches that update everyone on where we are at, what we are working on, and just general information we want to put out there.

Community and Conversation

First thing on today’s list is to make something clear to everyone. We are all for some spirited conversations. However, personally attacking someone or going after them because they have a different philosophy or collection than you, or because they are in a different financial situation, will not be tolerated at all.

Have conversations and discussions, cool, then move on. If your answer to everything is “Buy a Rolex” or “Just another Rolex look-alike,” just fuck off. You are not providing anything useful to the conversation and have such a narrow point of view that it really isn’t needed by anyone.

This is in general and not only on our page. If you think you are better than someone because you own a luxury brand and can’t appreciate that not everyone is the same as you, I feel bad for you. You are missing out on a large part of collecting and the hobby in general. Not everyone is out there trying to get you to have a 2” chubby because we wear a Rolex, Omega, or some other luxury brand. There are a lot of us who simply enjoy the hobby and various watches.

Sure, there are a lot of watches that take inspiration from some of these brands, but if you cannot get past the point of seeing that they can look similar and borrow design language while still having their own identity and customer base, then you need to go outside, touch grass, and see the sun.

On the flip side of this, we have stated and will continue to state that we do not support fake or counterfeit watches. We also do not support “homages” that only take the look of another watch and slap a different brand’s logo on it. A brand should do something of its own to make the piece theirs. Examples of watches that borrow design language but put their own twist on it would be the Brigade Subcommander, Monterey Watch Co. Darkfathom, Timex Expedition Ti GMT, Seiko Speedtimer, Smiths Everest, and a plethora of others.

Reviews in the Pipeline

Reviews currently in the pipeline include the Monterey Watch Co. Darkfathom, S.B.W.C. x Brigade SC74, Fenix LD30, Benchmade Bailout Taiga Green, Glycine Airman GMT, and Laco Palermo 39.

The Darkfathom and SC74 reviews are being written in conjunction with this dispatch and a couple of other articles, and they will be released over the next week or two. After that, we will likely take some time to cover the Bailout and LD30 while I get the initial impressions for the Airman and Palermo written.

I do not want to rush these articles. I like to spend at least a week with any item and get some good hands-on time with it before completing the full review. Initial impressions articles are normally based on the first 24 hours, but sometimes they will be done after a 72-hour period.

Without proper T&E time, I feel as if I am not giving the full picture and could potentially miss something positive or negative. I feel it would be a disservice to you guys if I did that. So stay tuned. These will be released soon.

Instagram and the First Land Diver Society Giveaway

We are coming up on 400 followers on Instagram, and I want to thank everyone for all the love and support.

When we hit 500 followers, I will be doing the first-ever giveaway associated with Land Diver Society. I have an idea of what I would like to do for the giveaway, but I need to get some things in the works first. More information will be announced in a stand-alone dispatch and shared on the Instagram page as we get closer to the 500-follower mark.

September Break

The month of September will be a slower one for content on the website and Instagram pages. I plan to take some time to relax and spend time with my wife, family, and friends while I have time off work.

I feel it is important to step away from things every now and again, and sometimes you need to deliberately plan time to be able to do that. September is the perfect time for me.

Normally, I would be taking this time in September because bow hunting is opening up. I will not be able to bow hunt this year, so instead I will be doing what I need to do to relax during that time and doing some prep for the soon-approaching gun season.

TikTok and the Content Schedule

We will likely start utilizing the TikTok page more seriously in October of this year, with a more focused strategy for posting content there.

A sample posting plan across all platforms currently looks like this:

  • Wednesday: weekly dispatch on the website.
  • Daily or every other day: Instagram post.
  • Monday, Wednesday, and Friday: TikTok post.

This is still in the works and will eventually be updated with a final plan and schedule. I will keep everyone updated as the time gets closer.

We are still occasionally posting on TikTok and are currently going through the process of revamping the page, but please feel free to head over there, check it out, and follow. It is @Landdiversociety over there, just like everywhere else.

For Now

For now, these are the updates we have for you guys. Hope you appreciate the info, and we will have more for you soon!
